More Information
Joseph Cheaney & Sons Avon ‘C ‘in almond grain is a tan brogue, derby lacing with heavy commando rubber sole. Built on the 12508 last, a wider fitting shape, with a round toe and deep toe box, the Avon is a proper pair of tan brogues. The commando sole is the heaviest of the rubber soles we stock, purposely designed for country lifestyle, this shoe is made to be worn, so don’t be precious with this bad boy.
Cheaney Avon is Goodyear welted, a traditional shoe manufacturing construction favoured by English shoemakers, allowing for multiple resoles. Repair not replace is the key to enjoying this style for many years, being the ultimate in sustainable footwear.
Bowhill and Brogues – Brogues and the English countryside go hand in hand, and with Bowhill & Elliott perfectly placed in the heart of Norfolk, tan brogues have always held a special place in our long history. Originally designed for men who worked the land, the word brogue derives from Gaelic, simply meaning – bog. The punched holes that make the style a brogue would be perforated, allowing water to drain when working in marshland or, bogs! The brogue punching may no longer perforate the leather, and although still fully fit for purpose out in the wild, it has become a true English classic regardless of the terrain.
Bowhill & Elliott have a longstanding relationship with Joseph Cheaney & Son’s, who have historically made shoes for us in a private label capacity. In todays world we only use the Bowhill & Elliott label on shoes we personally manufacture, as the people who make the products should be credited for their craftsmanship. Personal relationships between our two brands continue, so watch this space as we look to release new exclusive dual branded styles.
